GAINESVILLE, Texas (KXII) — The bodies of a missing father and 4-year-old child were found in Gainesville, Texas, Wednesday amid a search connected to an Amber Alert issued out of Norman, Oklahoma.
Gainesville Police said that early Wednesday morning, they got in contact with a relative of Caleb Furley, 25, and missing 4-year-old Andres Furley, who was the subject of an Amber Alert out of Norman.
The relative told officers that the two had been seen at a business in the 1500 block of North Grand Avenue at around 3:00 p.m. Monday.
A police investigator went to the business when it opened and found surveillance video from Monday that appeared to show the two. They were last seen walking away from the area.
That kicked off a search of the surrounding area, and during the search, an investigator found the bodies of a man and a child. The medical examiner is working to positively identify them.
Gainesville Police Chief Kevin Phillips said the department was first called to the area Monday after someone reported a suspicious interaction involving a father and son.
“The contact just appeared to be suspicious. So they notified the police department and we responded,” Phillips said.
Officers searched at the time but did not find anyone.
“The officers searched the area extensively, and we also used a drone to search the area, but we weren’t able to locate anyone,” Phillips said.
Police also looked for a vehicle possibly associated with the two but were unable to locate it.
“We do extend our deepest condolences to the persons that are impacted by this incident,” Phillips said.
Norman Police said that both 4-year-old Andres and Caleb Furley had been found in Gainesville.
Caleb was wanted for parental kidnapping.
Gainesville Police stated that The Texas Rangers are helping with the investigation.
